What is a double bishop mate?
In a double bishop mate the two bishops work on adjacent diagonals: one gives check, the other covers the escape squares. The king usually sits on the edge or behind its own pawns.
Many players never use their bishops as a mating team because they think of them as long-range defenders. These puzzles change that.
Common mistake
Trading a bishop early. The pair is the mating weapon.
How to spot it
Are both of your bishops aimed at the enemy king's area?
A pawn move or capture that opens a long diagonal is often the key.
Check which escape squares each bishop covers: they share the job.
