What is a interference?
Interference puts a piece on the line between an enemy defender and the square it guards, cutting the connection. Even if the interfering piece can be captured, capturing it often blocks the defence anyway.
It's a rarer, more advanced idea, which is why it's a common blind spot even for strong club players.
Common mistake
Ignoring the 'impossible' square because the piece can be captured there.
How to spot it
Find two enemy pieces that protect each other along a line.
Is there a square on that line you can occupy with tempo?
Check whether capturing your interfering piece also blocks their defence.
