What is a underpromotion?
Underpromotion means promoting to something other than a queen. It's rare, but when it's right it's the only winning move: a knight promotion with check or fork, or a rook to avoid stalemate.
The trainer here lets you choose the piece, so you'll have to spot it yourself.
Common mistake
Queening automatically.
How to spot it
Would a queen promotion allow stalemate? Try a rook.
Would a knight promotion give check or fork the king and queen?
Count the opponent's legal moves after each promotion choice.
